Riders form the Whitsunday Mountain Bike Club Inc. (WMTBC) launched themselves, and their bikes, into the racing season over the weekend in Townsville!
Four WMTBC riders pulled on the full-face helmets and pointed their bikes downhill as they took on the challenging course by the Rockwheelers Downhill at Mount Stuart on Saturday.
Downhill was a new discipline for WMTBC riders and proved to be a challenging course but Ben Roe and Mick Sorley came out on the podium taking 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
Sunday morning saw three more riders (one from Airlie and two from Hamilton Island) join the ranks and line up for the popular discipline of Enduro racing.
All riders did exceptionally well with Jamie Jochheim within 30 seconds of a podium finish in the Open category and Chris Labes taking a win for the ladies.
The Whitsunday Mountain Bike Club is looking for more members and warmly invites anyone interested in the sport to join them this Saturday afternoon from 1pm for a free BBQ at Brandy Creek – there will be 20 different demo bikes to borrow and join any of the guided rides put on by the club, all FREE.
