Jumbo July & Amazing August

What a brilliant month we’ve just had – and can you believe it just keeps getting better!

Kicking off the month with skills classes thanks to Jess & Norm Douglas from MTBSkills was the perfect ground work for the upcoming race season. Over 30 riders participated in two days of workshops with many coming from Mackay and even as far as Sydney to participated.
All reports back were very positive and it was such a unique opportunity to meet and ride with a world champion on our home trails.

Enthusiasm was running high the following weekend when we held our monthly club social ride through the Great Walk with 15 riders taking part, 3 doing the whole ride for the first time and 2 new riders joining the cub after their experience!!

Last weekend we had a contingent of nine riders head North to the Townsville Rockwheelers’ Paluma Push.
Everyone rode well with some tackling the challenging course for their first time – no punctures and only one small crash.

Mackay Mad Rush
August 23rd, 2pm

The WMTBC is pretty excited about this event – we’re hoping to have 10+ 2-person teams representing the Whitsundays – check out the chalkboard at Ride Whitsundays to find a team-mate!!

This race consists of 6-hours of riding as a solo, or in a 2/3/4 person team. The more people in your team the less riding you do – we think that 2-person teams is a great option.
From the start you and your partner/team mates take it in turns to ride the 30-minute course. The first three hours will be during day-light hours, but after 5pm you’ll need lights!

There is no requirement to be racing at all times and you don’t need to do the same amount of riding as your partner – if you have one partner that wants to do one lap to your two laps’ that’s absolutely fine.

The only rule… you MUST HAVE FUN!

We will set up a big WMTBC transition area where all our supporters can sit together and hand solo riders energy drinks and chocolate bars as they come through transition and we can all cheer each other on.

Racing finishes at 8pm with prize giving held around the big communal camp fire over an awesome BBQ dinner.

Bring your family and your camping gear – we’re setting up tents at the mountain bike park and staying the night after the event.

For more information head in to Ride Whitsundays and talk to Chris – she’ll sort you out with a partner and all the information you’ll need to know!!
