That hurt…

“That hurt” has been the most repeated statement throughout August!

Kicking off the month was the Mackay Mountain Marathon where Darren Simmonds, Andy Polson, Tony Hadley, Jason Whitham and Leigh Smith all impressed, but for weeks these guys were talking about how much ‘that hurt’.
We also had six riders take on the 80km marathon course with more than 2000m of vertical climbing – well done to Justin Lyons, Chris Labes, Brian and Anne-Marie Kehres, Dave Morris and Charlie Wilkie for making it through alive – I think there were some other choice words ahead of …’that hurt!’.

August 17 was the Elev8 8-hour in the Atherton Tablelands; Leigh Smith ventured out to see what the $1.3 million trails were like; sounds like an amazing network with lots of hand-built single-track – well worth the trip she said, and ‘that hurt!!’.

This weekend past we’ve been down at Mackay riding the Mad Rush 6-hour, again this race was all on hand-built single-track made extra challenging by the last three hours of riding taking place in the dark!! Well done to power couple Michael & Sam Sorley taking out the mixed pairs category with 14 laps, Scott White for completing his first MTB Race with a respectable 11 laps, and our three dynamic women Chris Labes, Leigh Smith and Anne-Marie Kehres each taking the on 6 hours solo…. I know ‘that hurt’!!

Jason Whitham makes light work of ‘the tree’ in the Eungella National Park. This part of the trail was 12km of stunning single-track only open to mountain bikes once a year for this event!!

Last year the rain meant the event couldn’t use this trail – but finally we got the opportunity and it was worth waiting for!

The Mad Mountain Bike Club of Mackay are currently in negotiations with National Parks to see if this trail can be opened to the public but for now if you want to enjoy it you’ll have to do the Mackay Mountain Marathon in 2015!!
