The Whitsundays is a highly desirable, premium, tourism destination with excellent typography, climate, special scenic attractions, family friendly locations, diverse accommodation, infrastructure and services.
Airlie Beach is the mainland township on the coast and is considered the Gateway to the 74 Whitsunday Islands. It is a two-hour flight from Brisbane and serviced by two modern airports including Proserpine (Whitsunday Coast, PPP) and Hamilton Island (HTI) that facilitate direct flights from all major centres around Australia, helicopters and private charters.
If you choose to drive, prepare for a big adventure. It’s a solid 13 hours from Brisbane or Cairns (whichever way you’re coming from), but the rewards are well worth it! You can trail hop the entire North Queensland coast and you’re guaranteed to enjoy the ride!
Peak tourist season in Airlie Beach is between April and October, being in the tropics means Airlie Beach only has two seasons; wet and dry. It is important to take this into consideration when planning a trip with better temperatures for riding falling between April and October, however you can expect to ride year round.
